I attended Shabbat morning services in the Ida and Jules Lowengard Syna-gogue at Menorah Manor, and what made that morning particu-larly memorable was the Bat Mitz-vah of 96 year old Samson Nurs-ing Center resident, Myrna Barg. Myrna looked vibrant that morning. She was seated at the front of the room, next to where Rabbi Leah Herz was leading the service. Seated behind her were her five daughters – she calls them her “five angels.” I enjoyed watching their smiling faces as they watched their mother become a Bat Mitzvah. Each one of them participated in the service, and Myrna qvelled at the sight of each daughter approaching the bimah. Myrna read beautifully from the Torah as she remembered her Hebrew teachings from over 80 years ago in Brooklyn, NY. She presented a meaningful D’var Torah, without using any notes! I have never seen that done before. During the service, I looked around the room, filled with Myrna’s fellow residents. They looked so proud of their friend, and were basking in her joy.
