Carol Jaffe will receive top Lion of Judah award

Carol Jaffe, a long-time Tampa resident, will receive the prestigious Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award at this year’s International Lion of Judah Conference, Nov. 7 - 10 in New Orleans.

As the Tampa Jewish Federation’s nominee, Jaffe will be honored among a select group of women representing their communities as leaders in philanthropy and volunteerism.

When Nancy Snyder moved from New York to Palm Harbor in 1979 she brought with her a love of hats and memories of her grandmother’s hat shop. Her grandmother Hannah Dobbins opened “The Nu Mode Millinery” in Freeport, Long Island, NY in the mid-40s. “They were gorgeous, high-end hats,” said Snyder.

WASHINGTON — President Obama did not order mayonnaise with his corned beef, the White House told a blogger who had written a mistaken report on the sandwich.

But in correcting the story, the White House appears to be shifting blame to U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek for what is being called, “mayogate.”

In the 2010 Bar & Bat Mitzvah Planning Guide, published Aug. 13, in a story about divorced parents, Lawrence Goldberg and Kim Goldberg, the Jewish Press incorrectly said the father was given the right to plan and have their son’s Bar Mitzvah at the synagogue of his choice.
