Pinellas Young Israel-Chabad Women present ‘kosher cheerleader’ comic
Sandy Wolshin, a former Oakland Raider cheerleader, now leads an Orthodox Jewish life. The Young Israel Chabad of Pinellas County Women’s group will host an inspirational and humorous evening with Sandy Wolshin’s one woman show “From Raiderette to Jewette: The Kosher Cheerleader” on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Wolshin is likely the only former NFL cheerleader to make the metamorphosis into an Orthodox Jewish woman. She uses story-telling, stand-up comedy, dance and video to share her story of being abandoned as a child, becoming an Oakland Raiderette, and experiencing a spiritual awakening while signing autographs at Pep Boys in her cheerleading outfit. Wolshin sought out Orthodoxy and learned the value of modesty.
As a stand-up comic, Wolshin’s appearances have included The Improv, The Comedy Store, Black Entertainment Television and the Jewish Television Network. Recently, she wrote and starred in a onewoman, Off-Off Broadway hit, The Rabbi and the Cheerleader.
A buffet dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and the performance starts at 8 p.m. at Young Israel Chabad, 3696 Fisher Road, Palm Harbor. All women in the community are welcome. Couvert is $40. For more information or to RSVP, call (727) 789-0408 or go to www.yichabad.com.
