MARCIA BENDER, 79, of Tampa, died Dec. 28. She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years at Carrollwood Elementary School. A member of Brandeis, she was also a member of Congregation Schaarai Zedek in Tampa. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Michael Collins, of Tampa; daughter, Karla Dorsey, of Tampa; sister, Jean Ackerman, New York; and two grandchildren. NAOMI WEXLER CHARDKOFF, 102, of Tampa, died Dec. 27. Born and raised in Chicago, she and her late husband, Dr. M. Chardkoff moved to Tampa in the late 1940s. She was an active member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom’s Sisterhood and Hadassah, serving for many years as its social secretary. Survivors include her daughter, Lynne Dyckman, of Atlanta, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard and Joan Chardkoff, Monroe, LA; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. JOHN S. GRIFFIN, 78, of Tampa, died Jan. 3. Born in Mt. Vernon, KY, he moved to Tampa in 1971 from Cincinnati, OH. He was a member and served on the board of the former Beth Israel Congregation, a member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, was co-chairman of the American Red Cross volunteers at Memorial Hospital and was an active participant of the Chesed Shel Emes. He was also a 40-year Mason. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Barbara; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Beverly Griffin and Greg Griffin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan and Kathy Ehrlich; and two grandchildren. BERTHA “TEENIE” DAVIS GROSSMAN, 79, of Atlanta, died Dec. 31. She was born in Tampa and graduated from H. B. Plant High School and attended the University of Miami. She then moved to St. Louis and later to Atlanta, where she raised her family. She was active with the City of Hope and served as City of Hope Atlanta Chapter President in 1980. Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Jack Grossman; her children, Sandra and Sol Fleischman and Harold and Sandi Davis. RHODA PRESSMAN, 86, of Tampa, died Jan. 10. She had been an artist. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Malcolm; son, Ronnie Pressman of Tampa; daughters, Susan Choueke, Los Angeles, CA, Audrey Pressman, Los Angeles and Karen Berman, Ft. JEFFREY ALAN WOLF, 64, of Plant City, died Jan. 1. Born in Washington, D.C. he was a custom homebuilder and the owner of Wolf’s Liquors in Washington. Survivors include his wife, Karen; sons and daughter-in-law, Harold Wolf, of Polk, and Gregory and Stephanie Wolf, of Tampa; daughter, Jessica Evans, of Plant City; sister, Karen Trueheart, of Potomac, MD; and one granddaughter.
