Barnett named permanent TJFS head
Tampa Jewish Family Services (TJFS) announces the appointment of Michael Barnett as its permanent Chief Executive Officer.
Barnett, who has been serving as the agency’s interim CEO for the past three months, joined TJFS as the program director of the Hebrew Loan Program (HeLP) and Chief Financial Officer.
“Tampa Jewish Family Services is changing its future,” said TJFS President Steve Freedman. “That future builds on the past and will bring TJFS into full community partnership with Jewish and other non-profit organizations in the Tampa Bay region.”
Enumerating what attracted TJFS to Barnett, Freedman said, “Michael is a businessperson who has long been committed to enhancing Jewish life in our community. The fact that Michael and TJFS found each other because of the development of the TJFS Hebrew Loan Program makes his appointment feel like bashert (destiny).”
Prior to joining TJFS, Barnett owned a mortgage company in the Tampa Bay area for 12 years and was a general manager for three Ralph Lauren Polo stores for 14 years in his native Miami. He has a degree in psychology from the University of Florida.
A volunteer in many areas of the community, he has served on the board of Congregation Rodeph Sholom for the past eight years including serving a stint as treasurer. Barnett and his wife, Virginia, live in Lithia with their two daughters.
Barnett especially praised the commitment of the TJFS staff. “We all share a passion to help others, especially in these trying times,” he said. “I encourage everyone to contact TJFS to be a supporter. We could use your support and help.”
TJFS, a beneficiary agency of the Tampa Jewish Federation, offers counseling and programs for children along with senior adult services that include counseling, Jewish Connections and holiday food delivery.
