Super Sunday is Feb. 28
The down economy has caused increased urgent needs and shortages in the Jewish community locally and around the world as more Jews — all ages from children to the elderly, singles and families — become desperate for basic humananitarian services. UJC Photos Volunteers and donors are still needed for Tampa Jewish Federation's annual Super Sunday phone-a-thon on Sunday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The event is being staged from the Tampa Jewish Community Center campus located at 13009 Community Campus Drive off of Gunn Highway.
Each year volunteers of all ages, from children and teens to seniors, gather at the center in shifts for a team effort, calling as many Jewish residents of Hillsborough County as possible, who have not yet given to the Annual Campaign.
The volunteers ask for pledges to help the Federation and its agencies serve Jewish needs and, in particular, Jews in need, across Hillsborough County as well as humanitarian services around the globe.
Volunteers also are needed for this once-a-year fund-raising drive to help make thank-you phone calls, as well as help with donor research and general event administration.
The shifts are two hours, but volunteers can work more or less if they wish.
Campaign leaders are asking community members to make themselves available to answer the call on Super Sunday, to ensure a successful event.
This year, Parker Gold is chair of community campaign, Harry Cohen is campaign chair; Bev Tannenbaum is the Lion of Judah chair and Carlyn Neuman, is Morasha chair.
The TJF is one of 155 federations across North America that raise a combined $1 billion each year to address urgent needs in local communities, in Israel and in 60 countries.
New volunteers are always welcome to join the Super Sunday team, whether veteran or newcomer members of the community, individuals and groups.
Experience is not required. Training is available on site. Babysitting will be available until 1 p.m. for families with young children.
Campaign leaders are encouraging teens to attend and participate. If they complete at least one hour of volunteering they will earn community service hours.
Calling all young adults
The Federation’s Young Adult Division, made up of young Jewish singles, couples and families, are inviting members and newcomers to join together in a group as YAD takes the 1-3 p.m. shift on Super Sunday once again.
In addition to the important work of making calls, the Young Adults make the shift fun as well as a place to get acquainted or reacquainted.
