Obituaries

GENE DAVIS, 90, of Tampa, died March 13. He was born in New York and moved to Tampa in 1946 from Atlanta after serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He operated National Distributors, a liquor and wine distribution company for over 50 years. He was a member of Congregation Schaarai Zedek and the ROMEO’S. Survivors include his wife, The Honorable Helen Gordon Davis, daughters and son-inlaw, Stephanie Davis, Atlanta, Karen Davis and Fred Stuart, Philadelphia, PA; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Davis and Larena Lacayo, Tampa; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Lighthouse for the Blind in Tampa or the Humane Society of Tampa. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)

MARVIN GOLDMAN, 90, of Tampa, died March 18. He was a founding member of Young Israel in Palm Harbor and an active member of the JCC Pasco. He was the principal of a Hebrew school on Long Island, NY and a decorated veteran of World War II. Survivors include his daughter, Ellen Sheridan, London, England; son, Dr. Stephen Goldman, New Port Richey; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials may be made to injured war veterans of the United States or Israel or a charity of ones choice. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)

SETH K. ROSENBERG, 69, of Tampa, died March 12. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 373, Congregation Schaarai Zedek and the Bayshore Better Breathers. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Robin Rosenberg and Barry Shalinsky, of Tampa; brother, Scott Rosenberg, of Miami; sister, Beth Rosenberg, of Israel; two grandsons. ALEXIS MORGAN SAUNDERS, 34, of Tampa, died March 7. Born in Tampa, she graduated from Berkeley Preparatory School in 1993 and Vanderbilt University in 1997. She moved to New York City for six years working as an advertising research analyst then moved back to Tampa to attend the University of South Florida, receiving a master’s degree in social work and working for Hospice as a social worker. She also published three books of poetry in the last year. Survivors include her parents, Stephanie and Alan. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Tug McGraw Foundation, 1303 Jefferson St. Ste. 100B, Napa, CA 94559 or the Humane Society in Tampa. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)

JUDITH SCHWARTZ, 84, of Tampa, died March 6. She was a lifelong resident of Tampa and graduated in 1943 from Hillsborough High School. She was a member of the Red Hats Society. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Barbara Phillips; daughter and son-in-law, Diana Phillips and Tom Kehoe, stepdaughter, Rae Schwartz; sister, Marilyn Kelly; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Pepin Heart Hospital in Tampa. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)

JUDITH ROSENTHAL SOBEL, 69, of Tampa, died March 15. Born in Neptune, NJ, she graduated from Boston University in 1960. She was the founder of La Leche League of New Jersey and was head of the New Jersey chapter for many years. She earned an Associates Degree in Nursing and received her RN in 1977. She was very involved in Temple Shalom, Succasunna, NJ and Congregation Kol Ami in Tampa. She was an eight-year breast cancer survivor and a volunteer at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. She taught Hebrew literacy, adult education and many other courses at Kol Ami. She led services at Aston Gardens and was honored by the Jewish National Fund as a Woman of Distinction. She was a life member of Hadassah and the West Coast Council of Case Managers. She was a patron of the arts and first chair violin of the Rhode Island Youth Symphony Orchestra. Survivors include her children and their spouses; Rabbi Sharon Sobel, Toronto, ON; Isaac Sobel, Houston, TX; David and Marilyn Sobel, Tampa; Michael Sobel, Westminster, CO; Ari Sobel and Christina Drum, Pittsburgh, PA and Las Vegas, NA; Naomi and Jonathan Marks, Stamford, CT; eight grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Congregation Kol Ami, Faces of Courage or the Jewish National Fund. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)

DIANE DAWN TILL, 53, of Tampa, died March 4. Survivors include her son, Kenneth Allen Wilson, Jr.; mother, Sandra Rosenblum; three sisters, Helene Miller, Gail Rosenblum, Alice Harper; one grandson. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)
