Hadassah

Mah jongg: The Chai Group of Brandon Hadassah is planning a mah jongg tournament Tuesday, April 13 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Riverhills Golf and County Club in Valrico. Author to speak: Join the Florida Central Region of Hadassah for a luncheon at the Safety Harbor Spa on Sunday, April 11 at 12:30 p.m. The guest will be Ellen Brazer, author of Clouds Across the Sun. The book begins as World War II is drawing to an end. Hitler devises a plan for world conquest through infiltration of the U.S. and other governments. Cost of the luncheon is $36 per person. B’nai B’rith

Holocaust remembrance: Greater Tampa Bay B’nai B’rith will hold its next bagel and lox brunch on Sunday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. The meeting will include the annual Holocaust Remembrance program with guest speaker William Stanley, who, at age 4, was put on the “Kinder Transport” along with his older brother, to escape the advancement of the Nazis. Also on the program will be a tribute to Dr. Frank Dukes-Dobos, long-time B’nai B’rith activist and outspoken Holocaust survivor who passed away recently at the age of 89. The program will be held at the new JCC Suncoast North facility at 2075 Sunnydale Blvd., Clearwater. Cost of the brunch is $6. RSVP to unit president Stuart Berger at (727) 480-5721.

Genealogy Society

Tombstone tales: A team of veteran genealogists of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay will speak on genealogical clues that can be found in cemeteries during a meeting Sunday April 18 at Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater. A social with refreshments and library access starts at 1:30 p.m. and the program begins at 2 p.m. Rita Shapiro and Vicki Adelson will explain how to locate the cemeteries where your ancestors are buried and discuss the types of genealogical clues that can be found on headstones. They will also talk about using internet resources such as the JewishGen Online’s Worldwide Burial Register. Alzheimer’s Group: The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the first Thursday of the month from 4-5 p.m. at Menorah Manor in St. Petersburg. Facilitated by Gwen Kaldenberg, MSW, director of the Bresler Alzheimer program at Menorah Manor, discussions focus on the latest practices for the treatment of Alzheimer’s.
