Zionist Congress calls for settlement freeze
JTA news service
The World Zionist Congress (WZO) passed a resolution endorsing a two-state solution, a West Bank settlement freeze and calling on Israel to stabilize relations with the U.S.
The vote in Jerusalem came a day after some opponents of the resolution walked out of a meeting of the 36th Congress’ settlement committee.
After the resolution was passed by the full Congress, resolution opponents protested by mounting the stage and singing Hatikvah.
The WZO elects the officers and ostensibly sets policy for the organization and Jewish Agency for Israel.
