Newly married or engaged? All couples who were married married or engaged in 2017 or 2018 are invited to join Rabbi Joel Simon for Shabbat dinner on Friday, Nov. 16, at 8:30 p.m. following services. This Shabbat dinner is not limited only to Schaarai Zedek members. Let unaffiliated friends know they are welcome, too. There is no charge, but reservations are needed. Sisterhood Book Club: This group will meet under the leadership of Barbara Hicks on Monday, Nov. 12 at noon to discuss Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann. RSVP to the temple.

Tot Shabbat: Enjoy an interactive Shabbat experience for families with young children on Friday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. This is for children up to age 5 and siblings of all ages. Learn Shabbat rituals and prayers, light the candles, sing the kiddush, and bless the challah. After the service, there will be a free Shabbat dinner for the families. ROMEO Club: Take in a dutch-treat lunch at Shula’s American Steak House, 4860 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, with the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) lunch bunch on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 11:45 a.m. RSVP at or call the temple office. Bike ride: Meet at Alonso High School on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. and join others in a bicycle ride on the Upper Tampa Bay Trail to Ballyhoo Grill, 7604 Ehrlich Road, for lunch, and then back to the high school. Senior luncheon: Guest speaker Rabbi Nathan Farb will relate “The Scandalous True Story of Hanukkah” at the seniors luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 15. The meeting begins at 11:15 a.m. What you think you know about Hanukkah may be wrong. The true story is filled with religious extremists, political corruption, and backstabbing (literally). Café CSZ: Have a bagel and a cup of coffee at Café CSZ on Sundays from 9-11 a.m. when the religious school is meeting. Join the conversation and meet friends, fellow parents, and other congregants.

Mah jongg dinner event: The Sisterhood will hold a mah jongg dinner event on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Bring your mah jongg group, your set, and your card, and you’re ready to play. Single players will be matched together. Newbies are encouraged to come to learn from patient, experienced teachers. There will be extra sets and cards so women can come as they are and enjoy the evening. The cost is $10 per person. RSVP to the temple office or email
