Obituaries


HERMAN “HY” BROWNSTEIN, 92, of Tampa, died Dec. 28. Born in New York, NY, he had earned degrees from the City College of New York and New York University. He also attended the University of Chicago. He worked for many years as a chemist and later became a business owner, selling office furniture. An avid reader, he enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking and furniture making, and later in life discovered a talent in painting. His paintings, mostly of the outdoors, are proudly displayed in the homes of his family. Survivors include his wife of 58 years Shirley Zak Brownstein; his children: Rebecca (Becky) Brownstein and son-in-law Dan Swartz, Worcester, MA; Rachel Brownstein and son-in-law Clive Jaffe, Tampa; Joanna Brownstein and partner Steve Salina, Watertown, MA; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Southern Poverty Law Center or American Heart Association. (Segal Funeral Home)

LYNNE FELMAN, 90, of Tampa, died Jan. 11. She grew up in Trenton, NJ, and graduated in physical therapy from Columbia University. Soon after she relocated to Philadelphia, where she met her husband Al on a blind date and they were engaged after four weeks. She worked alongside her husband as a physical therapist. A volunteer for many years as a greeter at Memorial Hospital in Tampa, she also volunteered with the Florida Orchestra and Tampa Bay Opera, even performing in a couple of productions as an extra. She was a member of Congregation Schaarai Zedek. She had a passion for music, playing drums and washboard and along with her husband loved performing in their Dixieland band in front of any willing audience. Survivors include her husband of 65 years Al; three sons and daughter-in-law, Dave and Judy Felman, Bob Felman, Jim Felman; and eight grandchildren. (Segal Funeral Home)

SHARON HELLER, 70, of Sun City Center, died Jan. 5. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Loree Heller; two sisters-in-law, Patrice Heller and Laura Heller. The family suggests donations to the Habilitation Center in Boca Raton. (Segal Funeral Home)

SANDRA LEHRER, 86, of San Antonio, died Dec. 29. Survivors include her sons: Rich Lehrer, Steve Lehrer and Andy Lehrer. (Segal Funeral Home)

MARILYN GREENBERG ROBINSON, 89, of Tampa, died Dec. 25. Born in Bronx, NY, she graduated from James Monroe High School and became a bookkeeper, administrative assistant and office manager. She made homes in New York, New Jersey, Mexico, and various places in Florida, including Melbourne, Lutz, Tamarac and Wesley Chapel. After retirement, she traveled with her family from California to New York, along with trips to Israel and Egypt. She was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing current events and debating politics, along with playing cards, solitaire, and Words with Friends – sometimes virtually with loved ones. Survivors include her children: Fred Fischer, Susan Fischer, Donna Robinson Marquez, Marc Robinson, step-daughter Maia Michaelson, daughter-in-law Catherine Durkin Robinson, son-in-law Robert Marquez; brother Walter Greenberg, and seven grandchildren. MICHAEL ARRON SCHER, 58, of Land O’Lakes, died Jan. 7. Born in Detroit, he graduated from West Bloomfield High School, where he was active in sports, playing baseball, football and basketball. He attended Western Michigan University, where he joined the university’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He then received his BBA from the Detroit College of Business (now known as Davenport University). In 1997 he and his wife moved to Lutz, where he spent 19 years at Gentiva, working his way up to director of Internal Audit. In 2019, he was diagnosed with ALS and he fought courageously and always managed to keep a smile on his face. His bravery inspired the many who followed his journey. Survivors include his wife of 28 years Shari; two sons Matthew and Joshua; parents Cissy Gordon, Alan Scher (Susan); brother Steven Scher; two sisters and brother-in-law, Lori Blum, Jacquelyn and John Stassinopoulos; mother-in-law Audrey Hirschman; brother-in-law Samuel Hirschman. The family suggests memorials be made to ALwayS for ALS, Inc., Palm Beach Gardens. (Segal Funeral Home)
