Eighteen women were celebrated and honored for their dedication to Jewish community organizations at the virtual Bobbe Karpay Women of Distinction Program on May 11.

Area synagogues and Jewish organizations were each invited to honor one woman who exemplifies the mission of the agency through her leadership and commitment.

Event Co-chairs Stacy Leeds and Shari Mezrah were the emcees of the evening.

Blessings, anthems and D’var Torah from female clergy representing area congregations – Hazzan Jodi Sered-Lever, Congregation Mekor Shalom; Rabbi Carla Freedman, Congregation Beth Israel; Rabbi Rachel Blatt of Congregation Kol Ami and Cantor Deborrah Cannizzaro, Congregation Schaarai Zedek.

Karen Waksman, daughter of Bobbe Karpay, z”l, shared memories of her mother’s love for the community and commitment to tikkun olam – repairing the world. Byron Smith, a partner with the event’s sponsor, RSM US LLP, certified public accountants and business consultants, conveyed congratulations to the honorees.

Tampa JCCs & Federation Campaign Chair Debbie Taub introduced the keynote speaker, Meredith Fineman, an entrepreneur, writer and media expert. Author of “Brag Better: Master the Art of Fearless Self-Promotion,” Fineman lauded the honorees for “giving voice to the voiceless” and offered her insights on to attendees “accepting visibility with pride.”
